The Ballroom Café and Playground Description
Located in Glen Echo Park next to the Spanish Ballroom, the Ballroom Cafe is open seasonally from March to October, and offers a selection of sandwiches, fresh fruit, baked goods, snack foods and drinks. The hot dogs, pizza, and popcorn all get high marks from the kids and the service is good. Right outside are shaded picnic tables and a playground (originally an Olympic-size pool during the park's amusement park days) with swings, climbing and balancing equipment for kids. Planning Notes
- A solid choice.Though it's a bit pricey, this café is the only option for light food in the park. Another alternative is to bring a picnic lunch. There's plenty of space to eat it. Plan to linger.The whole park is wonderful for walking, running or pushing a stroller. There are both sunny and shady areas with winding paths leading to a variety of historical landmarks (check out the trolley car which was originally used to transport people to the park). When walking from the parking lot through the park to the café, go over the wooden foot bridge and follow the path past the Carousel. The café and playground will be on your right.
