Playa de los Artistas Description
The surfer/hippie mecca of Montezuma has some of the most entertaining dining in Costa Rica; stroll the main street and you'll see a wide array of colorful cafes serving International style food at reasonable prices. Order beers for mom and dad, juice drinks for the kids, and kick back for some great people watching. Our hands-down favorite was the Mediterranean-flavored Playa de los Artistas, located at the end of the road on the beach itself (the floor is sand!) which offers a daily chef-chosen menu featuring lots of fresh fish and lobster, wood-fired pizzas, sushi, and creative vegetarian choices. Make sure your meal includes the smoked cheese and shrimp appetizer.
Planning Notes
- Chef's choice. The chefs, Nicola and Daniela, set the menu everyday depending on the fish and produce available. So stop by on your way home from the beach and check the night's menu before deciding if it's the right night for Playa de los Artistas, since kids won't appreciate it if the night's main entrée is octopus or something similarly out there.
