Restaurant 1492 Description
The main dining establishment (there's also a beachside restaurant) for Hotel Punta Islita, 1492 is quite international and upscale compared to most of what you find in Costa Rica. The breakfasts, which feature omelettes, eggs benedict, and other egg dishes; exotic tropical fruit salads; and divine Costa Rican coffee, get the day off to a healthy high-energy start. Lunch is fairly typical: salads, sandwiches, and seafood cocktails, but the lime-doused ceviche is probably the best I've ever had anywhere. The dinner menu is extensive and eclectic, but we were happiest with the various dishes featuring grilled fish and shrimp, all prepared with plenty of pizzazz. (Basically we ate the Caribbean jumbo shrimp salad almost every night.)
Planning Notes
- Guests in the majority. This restaurant primarily serves those staying at Hotel Punta Islita, though some travelers staying in the nearby beach town of Corozalito told us they visit the resort to eat at 1492 and, as long as they ask politely, they're accommodated.
