Monas is one of our very favorite Saturday brunch and weekday lunch places in the Bay Area and epitomizes everything that is wonderful about Alameda. This small, friendly neighborhood cafe features a short but inventive menu, wonderfully fresh ingredients, amazing pastries & desserts, small town coziness and a proprietor/chef who is pleasant and accommodating. Very family-friendly -- Mona will often make something up special for our 4-yr-old if he doesnt want anything on the menu, and she keeps a couple of shelves of books and toys out for kids. Mona turns the ordinary into the extraordinary. Something as simple as scrambled eggs will turn up at your table with a twist and a turn that will impress the most hard-to-please gourmets.
