First Awakenings Description
First Awakenings serves all the standard breakfast fare, but what sets it apart is the crepes, which are light, fluffy and slightly sweet — big hits with the "I don't like eggs" crowd. The fruit-topped Belgian waffle and raisin bread French toast were kids' favorite, of course. And how many non-chain places boast nine types of pancakes, including those made from wheat germ?

- Nearby attractions. The Monterey location in the Tin Cannery Outlet near the Aquarium is very convenient but not so easy to find; call ahead for directions if you don't know the area well. A second location in Salinas is the perfect place to stop before visiting the Steinbeck Center. Not open for dinner, and lunch only goes til 2 p.m. on weekdays, so plan your schedule accordingly.
