Willy's Smokehouse Description
Though slow-smoked barbecue is Willy's specialty, and the pulled pork is indeed fabulous, what we couldn't get enough of was all the extras. Several of the appetizers and "sides" are don't-miss: The broccoli & cheddar cheese fritters, the "smoked 'choke" artichokes, the sweet potato fries, the cornbread muffins with ancho-chile honey butter. The "mocktails" got a big thumbs up from the kids, especially the Jungle Juice, which was so good I ended up substituting it for my beer. Leave room for the desserts, too — the deep-fried twinkie deserves its repuation, but we absolutely obsessed over the drunken bananas, a tweak on Bananas Foster with bourbon-caramelized bananas and candied walnuts. Lastly, a shout-out to whoever designed the space. Some secret in the acoustics makes the atmosphere unusually conversation-friendly, even though the night we were there the place was packed with rowdy families.
