Buffalo Road Block in Yellowstone National Park

by jnjhofseth March 14, 2008

This is our territory - you can just wait

In Yellowstone, we ended up getting stuck in a buffalo road block. This in itself is not that uncommon to have to share the road with the natives, but not usually for over 1-1/2 hours. We were on a two-lane road, cliff going up one side and down on the other. Now these huge creatures decided this was the spot for them. One of the mother buffalo lifted her tail and proceeded to go to the bathroom on her calf that was following a bit too close behind. Now, with three boys slurping down drinks the whole time, someone was going to have to go to the bathroom. Sure enough, while our vehicle was surrounded by buffalo, our youngest had to go! The big guys finally moved about two cars in front of us, and it was time to take action. I grabbed our son Luke, held him tight, and let him do his thing where the deer and the buffalo roam. As we rushed back to the van, there was an applause from some of the other travelers. Our son had bought a stuffed buffalo for a souvenir, that he then named â¬SROADBLOCKâ¬ý. What a memory!
