Being "Girls" Again

by pjeanb February 23, 2008

Thirtysomething going on Thirteen.

After having lost touch for several years, my cousins, Michelle and Angi track my sister and I down, as well as our other cousin Stacy and our aunt, Marcy. We were so lucky to find each other and reconnect that we have made a deal that we will get together on the last weekend in July every year. Sometimes with our families, and sometimes, just us girls. We don't have a lot of money, so even if all we can do is go camping, we still have a great time. Our "Girls' Weekend" 2006 was in a small town on the Washington Coast called Grayland. We enjoyed each others' company and spent a weekend just being silly. The attached picture is my cousin Angi and I, doing our aptly-titled "Happy Dance" on the beach. It has been so wonderful to be able to reconnect with family members that I haven't seen since childhood. The very best part, in my mind anyway, is realizing that I really love them all and would seek them our as friends even if we weren't related. It is nice to act like a kid again with people who share so many memories.
