Winter Fun at Papa's 2006
by dkjkedodge March 31, 2008
Snow giggles
Our family drives to Montana every summer to visit Papa and Grandma at Crystal Lake. In Seattle we don't see much snow, so we've gone a few times for winter break too. The lake is frozen enough for ice fishing, playing on, skiing on, etc. We loved watching the deer walk across in the mornings! One day we were out playing and going for a long walk around our favorite cove. One of the neighbors came out and practically demanded us to let him clear off his ice rink area so we could skate. While he plowed a big circle for us, his wife Cindy brought out our sizes from their 88 pair collection of ice skates. We all skated slipped, fell, tumbled into the snowbanks at the side, giggling and shrieking all the while. Cindy brought out hot cider for us - so delicious and perfect, and they let the kids try to hand drill an ice fishing hole. My son quickly found it a lot harder to shave ice than he thought! Then in true brother form, he dared my daughter to stick her tongue into the freezing water to see if it would freeze, ala the old Christmas Story movie. We all laughed hard as she rocked back and forth trying to convince herself. Finally, she took the plunge! Of course it didn't freeze, but what a fun first for our family!!
