Stuck in the Sand

Our family visited Outer Banks, NC in June 2007. We had many memorable moments. My favorite happened when my brother decided it would be ok for us to drive our minivan on the beach. "Follow me" he said, "just ride right in my tracks". Famous last words. Well, my husband decided this was a good idea, and did just that. Needless to say, we ended up 3 feet deep in the soft, white sand. We all jumped out and tried digging, with our hands, with small beach shovels, with anything we could find. Finally, a couple came by, who were on their honeymoon. They stopped and broke out a portable camping shovel and proceeded to dig us out. Then a man in a large van came by and towed us out of the sand. So, eleven of us had to pile into my brothers car, which seats 6. We had all the kids piled in the back and took a scenic ride in the dark down the beach. The 7 kids all started singing songs and just having fun. They really know how to live in the moment. It was great. I will remember it forever.
