Having a blast at the College World Series in Nebraska!

by juliebug04 March 11, 2008

Kids at CWS!! Hook 'Em!

In Nebraska, the College World Series is such a wonderful family experience. We have been two years in a row and we have stayed in Lincoln both times. Lincoln is about an hour away, but the traffic is not bad at all, and the savings in hotel fees is worth it.

Omaha and Lincoln have so much to offer families! In Omaha, The Henry Doorly Zoo is the best zoo that I have even seen and it is well worth taking the time to explore. It is right across the street from the legendary Rosenblatt Stadium where the College World Series is played each year. There are hundreds of vendors to visit and lots of booths and events in the area around Rosenblatt. It's a one of a kind environment. The college teams get off the buses surrounded by fans, taking photos and signing autographs. It's amazing...

Lincoln has such a laid back atmosphere. It is the home to the University of Nebraska, and although we are Longhorn fans, we were made to feel at home and welcome in Lincoln...even wearing our burnt orange! There is a children's zoo in Lincoln that has llamas, peacocks, eagles...all basically within arms reach. It's wonderful. Downtown Lincoln has reasonably priced hotels and fabulous food! The Sunken Gardens in Lincoln are beautiful and peaceful. There is wildlife, fountains and gorgeous flowers, plants and trees...all that you would need for a relaxing afternoon stroll.

There were many moments during our most recent trip that were memorable, but one really cool one is when we met Steve Garvey. He played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and was coaching his son's baseball team in a tournament that my son was playing in. My son and my husband had their picture taken with him and it was an awesome experience for a family that loves baseball like we do!

The people are wonderful, the food is great and there are so many things for families to do and see in the area. It's one of our favorite places to visit on a family vacation!
