Counsins catching snowflakes
Each year, my sisters and I try to plan an exciting vacation for our children so they are able to spend some time together. Family is very important to us and having our children spend time together is priceless to us! We don't live in the same areas, so sometimes the get-togethers can be seldom. This year, we chose to go to my sister's farmhouse in Holcomb, Mississippi. It was not the most extravagant place to choose to go, but it was, by far, the most incredible time together! All 8 of our children had the time of their lives discovering new ways to explore and grow their imaginations! Her farmhouse sits in the middle of 600 incredible acres of farmland out in the middle of the country. There is no phone service, no cell phone service and very few interruptions. Leaving your worries at the entrance gate is a must. We arrived on a very cold day in Mississippi and the kids, as most everyone else in Mississippi, anticipated snow! That afternoon, for the first time since my children were born, they were able to see and play in the snow in Mississippi! Snow was everywhere - they caught snowflakes on their tongues and threw snowballs at each other. They played and played with all of their might until the cold drove them inside by the fire. As the days passed and the weather warmed, the kids were just kids without a worry in the world. Their imaginations were in high gear as they found secret passage ways through the trees, played pirates in the tree house and rode the dune buggy around in circles until they were dizzy with excitement! We rode on all-terrain vehicles around the farmland looking for wildlife and went on scavenger hunts for amazing treasures such as turtle shells, turkey feathers, animal tracks and daffodils. We took a hayride around the property and then roasted marshmallows for yummy sores over an open fire under the stars. It was just fascinating to see the anticipation and wonderment in the kids eyes as we told stories by the fire about the days when we were young. Oh, what fun it is to be a kid! It is rare to be able to sit back in an Adirondack chair in the sunshine and watch your kids laugh as they ride on a zip line, chase each other without having to worry about cars and getting into the street, pretend they are driving an old tractor through the fields and looking for pirates and invaders. It was so much fun to see their imaginations come alive and just explode! This was, by far, my most favorite and most memorable vacation that I have ever taken my kids on! We ALL had such a fantastic time with our family and cousins and can't wait to get together again! There are very few places on this earth that kids can just be kids! I know now that one of those few places is in the country filled with imagination just waiting on kids to come play! The other place that I dream about taking my three girls to one day where I can see their imagination explode like it did in Holcomb, Mississippi is Disney World! What a fantastic place it would be for them to explore and discover! Where they can just be kids!
Sincerely,
Mary Margaret Case
