A Walt Disney Pictures presents..... Moment

by jaggernmom March 30, 2008

My son Jagger is 5 and has Autism. Jagger's repetitive behavior (a part of his diagnosis) is talking about Disney movies, singing Disney songs, scripting lines from Disney movies and saying "Walt Disney Pictures presents..."

One evening, while on vacation, we went to a fundraiser with friends. I was returning from the ladies room and the acapella choir was preparing to sing when Jagger stood up, ran to a microphone and shouted at the top of his lungs "Walt Disney Pictures presents - The Lion King" and proceeded to sing the song "The Circle of Life" ( "La Sevenya" as he calls it).

I stood rooted in the doorway. I did not know whether to hug him for being so brave or cry for joy as so many professionals had said my son would never speak let alone interact in a social setting. My dreams came true that night, watching my little man up on stage belting out his song like a pro!!

I know the most important phrase he has ever learned was from watching The Wiggles on Playhouse Disney which is "Anything's Possible" and this memory has made a believer out of me.
