cape cod vacation days

by conniegigi March 11, 2008

When my children were young, my father in law rented a house in Dennisport, on the Cape. We would drive, 6 hours to spend time with my inlaws for 5 days and relax and enjoy the Atlantic air. on our drive to the Cape, my husband would insert the Patsy Cline tape and we learned all the words to her songs! We still laugh to this day, whenever a Patsey cline song is played on the radio.
Once we arrive TO the house and upacked, my father in law would take us for a ride to the beach...just to check things out. We would then start planning our vacation. During these days, the kids would make memories that would last a lifetime...
We would dine in some of the best restaurants and eat seafood till it came out of our ears. We enjoyed ice cream at the Sunday School ice cream shop and baked goods from Woofies. Every morning the kids would have breakfast outside on the deck and then play a few games of Uno with grandpa. He would then set up the wooden air glider and they would have fun with that.
We would plan a day at the beach, if the weather cooperated, go to the Outlets, Tea Room, or Cape Cod Chip Factory if it rained. We even took the ferry to Martha's Vineyard and visited South Beach.
The beaches at Chatham were also lovely and we watched the fishermen bring in their catch of the day. We always took a ride out to Provincetown to visit the Post Office Restaurant and check out the sites. Grandpa would usually bring a kite for the beach days and the kids would have fun flying the kite on the beach along with burying themselves in the sand.
Grandpa loved adventures, so he took the kids on the whale watch and seal watch excursions. He always brought his bike, to get around, so the kids would bring their bikes and enjoy a ride to the local beach, a few blocks away.
to this day, now that the kids are all teenagers, they sitll want to return to the Cape. Every summer they want to relive their fun childhood memories. We may just do so this summer and take grandpa with us...since he seemed to be the biggest kid of all.
