Big Bean Boot

I hadn't previously been aware of this, but apparently while my husband was growing up in Seattle, he'd been dreaming of that far-off place they talk about in the LL Bean catalog, Freeport, Maine. To him it sounded like this fantasyland where ship captains, harpooners and hunters enjoyed a pristine, forested outdoor wonderland. The big icon of it all (at least to him)? The giant boot. The giant boot? What's that? He informed me that it was a giant version of one of those Bean Boots, with the leather upper and rubber soles, that stood outside the Bean headquarters. On our way from L.A. to Boston to Acadia N.P. this month we stopped by Freeport, and lo and behold, there it was, gosh darnit, the giant boot. See for yourself.
