New Orleans Vacation During Hurricane Andrew

by toricolordiva March 10, 2008

my brother and I

My parents, brother and I vacationed in New Orleans when I was a kid. During the vacation we saw so much. The French Quarter and all the resturants there. We were exposed to great food and music. Cafe Du Monde a great place where mom and dad could get coffee and we could have our very first beignets. The muddy mississippi where we enjoyed riverboat cruises. The aquarium and my favorite the riverwalk where we did all our shopping. We even ate alagator on a stick, and yes it does taste like chicken. Then in the middle of the fun we got reports that a tropical storm had been upgraded to a hurricane. My brother and I started to video tape the change in the weather and the rise of the mississippi. It got humidy, gray and eventually windy, very windy. We were scared but we new we would be ok. We followed the instructions given to us by the hotel we were in and for a day we were stuck in our hotel room. We had fun, just the four of us. Getting room service, playing games and renting movies. When the storm had passed it seemed as the city rose from the rain and windy and shops opened again, resturants opened again. We learned a great lesson from the people of New Orleans, you got to get back up and keep moving forward. So we had fun and saw alot before the storm. During the storm we spent quality time with mom and dad. After the storm we saw the charcter of a city and its people. I will always cherish the memories of that New Orleans trip.
