Favorite Vacation Moment

Florida family bridged to Chicago...

The past few years our family vacations have been moments days before surgeries or appointments for our youngest son, Wes. Due to the rare condition Wes was born with, we must travel for his medical treatment. Often our family is broken apart to seek treatment, mom and dad with Wes, while our older two boys Chase and Brandon stay with grandparents. Fortunately this past summer our entire family flew from Florida to Chicago for Wes' neurosurgery. The day before he was to be admitted, we were able to take time with our family. The entire day was dedicated to our boys. They spent most of the day in a children's museum at Navy Pier. They explored every inch! Our boys are 4 years apart and have varying interest, which usually leaves them going in different directions. This day was different, they stuck with one another each sharing their awe. A very special moment was in the water works room. They all three put on their rain slickers. Together they built a bridge to transport water, each of them adding pieces and even picking up their little brother to press buttons and add links. All I could do was stand motionless, as my heart and eyes filled with the love our family shares.
A few days later I stood in Wes hospital room experiencing the same overwhelming feeling of love. Chase and Brandon were finally able to come into to visit Wes, I watched his eyes light up through the swelling, bandages, iv's, picc lines, monitors...as he heard the timid voices of his big brothers reassuring him and letting him know they were there with him.
Daily I watch my boys grow in love, that week I also saw the healing power of love.
The bridge of links has become a very special thought that I hold close, when our family is faced with difficult times. Together we have built bridges of love to travel together through the journey of life.
