Touching Train Ride

Happy in Chicago

Three years ago, when our son Shelby was six years old, he was into two things: trains and dinosaurs. My husband and I decided to take the train to Chicago so that he could experience the train ride and then see the dinosaurs, specifically Sue the T-Rex, on display at the Field Museum. The train left at night and was scheduled to arrive in Chicago the following morning. We were in the last car on the train, my husband had a terrible cold and could not stop coughing, and I could tell that there was no way in the world we would ever get to sleep. Right before I thought I would break down and cry, my sweet boy looked down from the upper berth where he was all snug as a bug and said, "This is the best day of my whole life." After that, nothing could ruin the trip for us. He was happy so we were happy. Tired, but happy!
