The best thing I liked about our family Disney cruise vacation (besides the fact that it was a vacation) was the fact that i had surprised the kids. I had been divorced since the end of 2001 &, as a result, had gone through quite a financial struggle. Once things stabilized and I remarried, I was inspired to take a Disney Cruise; something no one in my family had ever done was to go on a cruise. For Christmas we told the kids we were going on a vacation, but I wouldn't tell them where. They got a few gifts as clues (like bathing suits & underwater cameras). The night before the cruise, we flew into Orlando and stayed at an inexpensive motel. The kids were disappointed in the accommodations after such a build-up. Somehow, I managed to keep everything a secret until we returned to the airport the next day and headed for the Disney Cruiselines. The kids were so excited!! That trip was such a healing point in my relationship with my children and we still talk about it to this day. We even got to enjoy it the next Xmas as I gave gifts that I had bought & saved from the trip & I made a calendar of the kids of pictures they had taken.
