A Touching Moment

It was our last morning in Washington D.C. We had enjoyed the many museums of the Smithsonian and were spending our last hours in our nationâ¬"s capital paying tribute to our fallen heroes of past wars. I was particularly interested in the Korean War Memorial as my father had served our country during the conflict. My five-year-old was hot (the temperature was 100 degrees F. in the shade) and tired, but still interested in the engravings of the service men and women on the wall. He spent a long time examining them until one touched him. He went up and put his hand on the cool marble and just stood still for a moment as if he was connecting with them in some way. I love this moment because it created a connection to his late grandfather (whom he never met) and all our heroes of not only the Korean War, but all conflicts, past and present.
