Disneyland®

Sleepy gets even!

by princesspoot February 27, 2008 | Step-daughter: Age 10

Back in the late 80s, we had gone to Disneyland during Christmas. We were frequent patrons of the park, but this was our first trip there during the holidays, and I was blown away by the giagantic tree on main street, with ornaments bigger than my head! It was also the first trip that we had taken after getting the families first camcorder. Our typical route was to walk through the gates, down Main Street, and take that right turn just befor the castle towards Tomorrowland, with our first ride of the day always being Star Tours. We began on that same path, after stopping for pictures at the Christmas tree, and continued to take the right turn just before the castle. On the way, we saw some of Snow White's dwarfs hanging out and taking photos near the grotto just before entering Tomorrowland. My smart aleck older brother, who was about 10 years old, had yelled out to one of them that they were "old fogies". Just then, Sleepy turned around and started walking toward my brother, who playfully ran away from him. Sleepy kept walking toward him, faster and faster, into circles, until my brother ran upto what I assume was Guest Relations or the restrooms or First Aid, or something of that nature, (all I remember was a cute little yellow building with a quaint little wrap-around porch), but Sleepy was hot on his heels! Finally, he had hit a dead end at the side of the porch area, and Sleepy caught up to him. Then Sleepy started giving him noogies and messing up his hair, as he leaned over the banister, in an attempt to "free his head from the giants hands of Sleepy". This went on for about 15 minutes, as the rest of my family laughed our heads off. We managed to catch it all on tape, but all you can hear is my own annoying 8-year-old cackling laugh! But you just cannot imagine how hilarious that tubby dwarf looked, just quickly waddling behind my brother, without a peep! (Not to mention how cool it was, in hindsight, that one of the characters would spend so much time playing with us, and making our vacation memorable.)
