Disneyland brought back that smile!
by cesiliaDoty February 03, 2009 | Son: Age 15, Daughter: Age 12
As any parent with older children knows. There are certain expressions that become few and far between as our children get older. My children are 13 (14 in 2 weeks) and 11. Last year I was having a ruff time feeling like my children were growing up so fast and missing those tiny little expressions that used to come so easily. So, I decided that for my sons 13th birthday we should go to Disneyland (Neither of my children had ever been).
We had the time of our lives. We stayed in the resort for 6 days. We didn't leave once. We rode everything, We tried to see every thing. More than once I heard "Mom I love it here" or "Mom thank you SO MUCH!" I even heard "Can we Pleazzzzz stay forever" But the very best part of the trip for me was the night we watched the Disney Parade.
My so was wearing his birthday button and as Peter Pan rode bye he looked down at my son and yelled HAPPY BIRTHDAY TYLER!. The look on my 13 year old sons face when he turned to me was priceless. The look that only a child can give. Surprise, excitement, wonderment and pure joy all rolled into one. That may have been the last time I will ever see that look. But that memory will stay with me for the rest of my life.
