Cold at the Canyon Williams family style
My family took a quickie trip to the Grand Canyon in February 2007. We drove up on a weekend and stayed over in Flagstaff. The trip up was memorable on it's own - there was a blizzard that took us by surprise! I was at the wheel and I still get the willies when I remember driving the slick highway at 15 mph and passing semi-trucks and cars that had slid off the road! Let me mention that I've only driven in snow once before in my life!
We finally made it there alive - and we were all giddy with adrenalin from the trip. My children were ten and twelve at the time and they were amazed at how different it looked in the wintery light with snow drifting down into it. My husband had never seen the canyon in person and he kept saying how it just didn't look real - it was too perfect with the snow dabbled on the edges and the colors softly glowing in the light.
We went down into the canyon as far as we safetly could with our 'city' shoes on, and then we wandered through the village to the different vantage points and vistas. The entire family enjoyed our wintery visit to the magnificent canyon and we plan on going back in the winter months - just a little more prepared next time.
