On the beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Spending a long weekend in Gulf Shores, Alabama, was a great break in the routine for our family. We took time to see the USS Alabama in nearby Mobile. The kids really learned a lot (without realizing it) as they toured the battleship and submarine. They were most excited just exploring the beach - running in the waves, looking for shells, and building sandcastles. We skipped all the touristy spots. This was the most memorable time for me, our family just enjoying being with each other. Oh, and if you like down home country food (and a lot of it), don't forget to stop by Lambert's in neighboring Foley, where they throw the dinner rolls to you. Kids got a kick out of that, especially my son, the baseball player.
