The August day was warm, and breezy, and the sand bar offered the perfect playgroung for the children to release the aboudant supply of energy they had accumulated during our leisurly boat ride on the river. My husband and I were relaxing in the water next to the boat we had hired for the day, when we heard the familiar tune carried by the wind.Because the children were splashing each other and trying to catch minnows it was several minutes before they too heard the now distinctly clear music (do your ears hang low, do they wobble to and fro, etc.)One by one they started pointing in the direction of the colorful little boat comming our way with broad smiles on their sun kissed faces..The next thing we knew they were pleading for ice cream. Laughing we granted their wish, for we too wanted the sweet, creamy treat that the music had promissed was on the way. Immediatly they started jumping up and down and waving to the captain of the little boat hoping he could see them. How could he miss! Just a few minutes later we were all enjoying our unexpected treat. To this day they say that was the best ice cream they ever had. Now every time the ice cream man passes on our street they mention the time they ate ice cream in a bay purchsed from a man in a boat and not a truck. All of the laughter and memories of that vacation come back to them again like it was just yesterday.
