We find that Low-Tech beats High-Tech when traveling longer distances. You don't have to fix screens or troubleshoot errors with picture/short chapter books, color/activity books or "car bingo" sets. Things don't have to cost a lot of money either in order to be entertaining when traveling on a longer road trip. Using "Real scrap" for some scrapbooking or swapping stories about various family trips for a memory travel book. Lots of space to have their stuff within reach and of course a pillow/blanket when a nap is in order.
