#5: Kite-Flying at the Wright Brothers National Memorial, Kill Devils Hill, NC
Don't be insulted if someone tells you to go fly a kite when you get to the Wright Brothers National Memorial — the area is famous for its flyers. On December 17, 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright made several glider flights from the base of the Kill Devils Hill on the Outer Banks. In 1925, a 60-foot granite monument was dedicated in 1932 to honor that amazing achievement. If the wind doesn't catch right away, don't give up, just read the inscription on the monument's base: "conceived by genius achieved by dauntless resolution and unconquerable faith." Then head to the visitors center and see a full-sized replica of the brothers' first plane.
