Best of the Southeast

Known for hot days and sizziling nights, the Southeast is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country. Whether historical, industrial, technological or magical, these nine attractions are an homage to the spirit of the South.

#1: Cinderella Castle, Walt Disney World

castle

Magic can be found around every corner here — as well as the walls and the floors. With a look inspired by some of the most beauful palaces in Europe, Cinderella Castle, which opened in 1971 at 189 feet, is fit for royalty. Princes, princesses, lords, and ladies who visit the Walt Disney World castle can view the mosaic murals, designed by Imagineer Dorothea Redmond, that tell the story of Cinderella; undergo a royal makeover at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique; or mingle with the characters over a meal at Cinderella's Royal Table. The castle is also part of the Magic Kingdom's nightly fireworks show: Wishes.

Yes, Cinderella's castle is great, but you first have to pay the $75 per person to get into the Magic Kingdom. For someone on a budget, that may not work. BB Boutique is a great place too, but not for someone on a budget. You can visit BB Boutique in Downtown Disney without having to pay the $75 admission to the Magic Kingdom.
Don't get me wrong, I love everything about Disney, but it is not a destination for a family on a budget!
