Cruise Planning Part II: Seven Questions to Launch Your Trip

#3 of 7: How Much Time Do You Have?

  • Cruises can last anywhere from one night to one year, although the majority hit somewhere in the three- to 12-day range (one week is a popular option), with trips to Europe and Hawaii requiring more time, and voyages to Baja California and the Bahamas needing less time.
  • If you are planning a trip to Alaska, Europe or Asia, you might want to build in time at the beginning or end for additional sightseeing. Many lines, Like Princess and Royal Caribbean, have pre- and post- "cruise tours" so you can arrange your lodging, touring and transportation through them. Disney Cruise Line offers three or four day cruises with three or four days prior at the Walt Disney World Resort.
  • Don't forget to add in travel time. If you have to fly cross -country or international, make sure to consider time zones so you don't miss your cruise (or your plane on the back end).
