If you are, then according to a recent Travel Industry Association of America poll, you're in lots of company. The TIA survey found that one in five parents allows a child to miss school to gain travel experience (of these, 72 percent, however, missed only one or two days). If you're planning to play hooky on vacation, start by keeping the school well informed of your plans. Discuss with the teachers what work your kids will have to keep up with, and create a regular routine during your vacation when they can do so. To help kids stay in touch with their classmates and to broaden their learning experience, establish a way for them to share their travel adventures with the class, either while they're en route (by e-mailing or posting letters) or once they return to school.

Thinking of Skipping School for Family Travel?
swjohnsonla says:
At a time when schools depend on "average daily attendance" for funding, plus the pressure for constant skill and drill to prepare for required standardized testing, the guilt trip is tremendous on parents who want to pull their kid out for family travel -- no matter how meritorious.
