Want to prove you're still cool next time you give a present? Instead of buying gifts that have been around as long as you have, try some of these new products.
Here's a list of possibilities for younger kids:
- "This Little Piggy Went to Prada:" The book by Amy Allen has the added benefit of being fun for the "fashionista mama," says lifestyle expert Kimberly Schlegel Whitman.
- Check out babywit.com. You can order T-shirts for little kids with all sorts of zingers such as, "If you think I'm good lookin' you should see my uncle" and "My shovel is bigger than your shovel."
- Go to your nearest skateboard shop. These are pretty much the epicenters of cool in every 'hood, and now you can find skater tees for young boys and girls. Just make sure to get a long sleeve shirt to layer under the T-shirt for the ultimate hipster statement.
- Visit poshbaby.com, a website with stylish clothes and accessories for kids. Check out the universal "dwink" holder for drink boxes and drink pouches of all sizes, Schlegel Whitman says.
- Finally, when your young kids ask for a puppy, don't worry about getting the real thing. Opt for a robotic toy dog instead, like Hasbro's i-Dog.
What about gifts for teenagers? 17-year-old fashion stylist Chase Koopersmith weighed in with her suggestions:
- Kabbalah bracelets. They are hot in the trendsetting capital of Los Angeles.
- Levi's jeans, of all things, are making a comeback. "Everyone should own a pair," Koopersmith says.
- If you want to give the new college student a computer, the MacBook by Apple is the "cool" laptop to have.
- You can't go wrong with clothes from American Apparel.
