Since flowers are about beauty, it stands to reason that you'd be drawn to the best-looking Web site when it comes to picking an online flower delivery service. But is Web beauty only skin-deep when it comes to petal peddlers? In honor of Mother's Day, Family.com spent some time on several flower-delivery Web sites in order to give you the inside scoop.
- We love Teleflora for its simplicity. With three gorgeous arrangements in the center and then a simple menu guide above, the site is a cinch to navigate. You can sort by occasion, selecting such choices as "congratulations," "love and romance," "new baby" and "I'm sorry." You'll find flowers in vases, baskets, teapots and even hatboxes. You can also shop by price and type of flower.
- 1800flowers.com manages to stuff a lot more into its home page, so you'll probably spend more time rooting around for what you want. But options abound -- you can pick same-day delivery, grower's picks, plants and even chocolate-covered strawberries (a gift you really can't ever go wrong by giving). The site also touts a "fresh rewards" program for frequent users.
- FTD.com is the old stalwart of flower delivery. Now its online home offers a rich array of flowers for every occasion. We love the "recently viewed" tool that lets you see flowers you previously looked at. Our favorite feature on the site? The "more like this" option. If you spot an arrangement you like, you can see similar ones.
- Justflowers.com is another popular site, though its graphics are not as snazzy as the others. Navigation is simple and the site is a bit more utilitarian. Flower arrangements also tend to have a more traditional style.
- Finally, we also love Proflowers.com. With just a few select bouquets highlighted on the home page, the site is easy on the eyes. We especially like the "picture window" in the upper right-hand corner that scrolls through nine different arrangements automatically, letting you peruse the site's variety without doing too much work. Proflowers.com's biggest differentiator is that its extra-fresh flowers are shipped directly from the growers.
