Family 5: Our Favorite Father's Day Gifts
Dad will be Tickled!
With fathers day and graduation parties approaching I found a coupon for a cool gift. Its called a TickleMe Plant and it is a real plant that you grow that will close its leaves and lower its branches when tickled. My students love it and 99% of the people that I give TickleMe Plants to have never had their own house plant that moves when tickled. You can get a TickleMe Plant Greenhouse to grow your own at http://www.ticklemeplant.com and use the coupon code Holiday to get two dollars off.

That's pretty cool stuff. Especially the Father/Son handyman school and the sports tickets. I think most Dad's would be into both. You can also get a bazillion personalized Dad stuff at: www.zazzle.com/fathers+day+tshirts?rf=238254862467254415

My daughters are both grown, but we found that the most appreciated gifts were ones of time. The girls would make "coupons" for things like helping work on the yard/car, etc. Just little ways to volunteer to spend more time with dear old dad, even if it wasn't doing "girly" things. They learned alot from him in that way and he enjoyed sharing his interests with them in a relaxed setting.

I'm only on father's day number 3. First year our daughter was only 4mths old and in the cooing stage. We went to Build a Bear and made or own sound. I said we love you daddy and she made her noise. This is good for any young age I think. Last year I bought a big poster board and finger paint and we made daddy a big card.

Every year I take my kids out and shoot some pics of them at the lake or in the woods or someplace with nice scenery, then I make an 8x10 of it for my husband. Its been a tradition...but this year, I am minus one who "grew up" and moved away. So now I don't know if that idea would work though I am thinking I will have him send me a pic online for dad!
I have made special photos in frames or magnets for the fridge using powerpoint and clipart and pictures I have taken too.

OK, so those don't work. Here are a few other things I thought of, but since it's the Family Five, not the Tempting Ten, I had to pull them.
1. Book clubs. Someone has a sci-fi/fantasy dad (like me), then enter him in a book club specializing in those genres.
2. Movie passes are good, too, and can be shared with the whole family.
3. Free music downloads are available from a bunch of music sites.
4. If he's a workout/gym type, try things like new gloves, shorts, personal training sessions, etc.
My wife tried to get me tickets to the Police reunion concert in Denver this year, but that turned out to be a little cost-prohibitive. :)

My hubby is all about car stuff: I got him a radar detector one year, an mp3 player for the car another. He also loves the band U2, so I've given him U2 books and DVDs for various holidays, too.

I need more options...I don't think any of these would work for my husband. It's always so hard for me to think of good Father's day presents for anyone- my dad, my father-in-law, my husband. I like the idea of something very personal and from our daughter.

My husband doesn't like most of those things, but he is a sci-fi and comic geek. So I usually get him a collector's DVD set or gift certificate to his favorite comic store as a gift.

My husband is a stay-at-home dad so every year I always give him the day off! He goes to a jazz festival with his buddies at the Hollywood Bowl. I don't think there's a gift I could give him that he would enjoy quite as much.
