Description
Materials
old jelly belt
1/4 yard vinyl
large grommets (4 0r 6)
12" zipper
sewing machine, thread, scissors
pencil,
hammer, grommet tool
2 carbiner clips
2 swivel clips with rings
2 5" pieces 1/2 inch elastic
How to Make
End Pieces - Fold the placemat to purse shape and trace the ends onto your vinyl. Add 1 inch on each side and cut out two pieces. Attach the elastic to the top (straight edge) back on both ends and then fold over once and stitch on the top side while stretching to form the top edge. Attach the curved edges to each end of the placemat to form the sides of the bag. If your placemat is stiff it may help to sew from each side toward the bottom of the bag. Be sure to sew right sides together!
Top-cut 2 pieces of vvinyl 2 " wider than the top of the bag opening, and 5" wide. Insert the zipper in the middle of these pieces. Attach the top pieces to the two edge of the placemat to form the top of the bag, right sides together. Turn the whole bag right side out.
Place the grommets one on each of the 4 corners of the top of the bag, following the directions on the grommet package.
Cut the belt to your desired length for the handle. Attach a grommet to each end if necessary (the example belt already had grommets). Attach the swivel hooks to the belt using the rings. Hook the handle onto the bag using the carbiners by going through the rings and grommets on each end. Cover any stitching as desired with the ribbon and glue, turning under the cut ends for a neat finish.
If you don't sew you can do this with rivets. be sure to wear protective gear when hammering the grommets or rivets.
Enjoy your bag, knowing the plastic won't be filling up a landfill!
- Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your gingerbread house or holiday cookie is the star!
- Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
- Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
- For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
- With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
