Description
Materials
9 toilet paper roll tubes
egg carton
1 empty large size box of raisins
misc cardboard tidbits (we used scraps from old boardgames)
glue gun
acrylic paint (black and white)
masking tape
How to Make
For the Walker:
Cut a hole in the top of the empty raisin box, and insert a toilet-paper roll cardboard tube. Using the glue-gun, make sure that he head and neck are stuck together. Then affix the head via the neck to the six-pack bottle holder using the glue-gun. Use masking tape to tape together four legs from two toilet-paper roll cardboard tubes each. Cut out a single egg section from the egg carton for each of the four feet, and glue to the end of each leg section. Glue the four leg sections to the bottom of the six-back bottle holder body section. Use extra glue to make sure it is solid. Finally, using misc scraps of cardboard, glue pieces to the sides, legs, and head in order to give the craft a mechanical appearance.
Now that the Walker is assembled from it's cardboard components, it is time to paint it. Paint the whole structure black first, then let dry. Dip the brush in the white paint and then, on scrap cardboard, brush off most of the white paint. Now that the brush still has paint on it, but is relatively dry, brush over the dry black coat. This will highlight the mechanical textures.
Place your child's favorite action figures in the new vehicle, and surprise!
- Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your gingerbread house or holiday cookie is the star!
- Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
- Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
- For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
- With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
