My daughter and I buy little notebooks and pens at the Dollar store, and write notes to each other throughout the trip, like a journal. But we don't exchange until we get back home. They're full of in the moment jottings and thoughts, and thank you's for this and that. It's a GREAT souvenir. Also, during the trip, we usually buy stickers to decorate them with, making them even more special.
