After hearing all my stories of the wondrous bowls of noodle-filled soup, the nieces wanted "ray-men" -- and they weren't taking no for an answer. When they finally saw the vat of soup, they were glad I'd made them order one bowl...

My nieces couldn't get over the fact that the lake of tar in front of the Page Museum was bubbling with geological processes they'd yet to learn of in schools -- either that or it was biological processes being emitted by the...

I think they would have stuck their hands in every hand- and footprint, if we'd had the time. Funny, we'd just gone to a Fourth of July tribute to John Wayne at the Hollywood Bowl the night before and they had no idea who he was.

Dutch Wonderland has come a long way since I first visited nearly 20 years ago. The coasters are bigger, the food is better, and it's quite a bargain.

Just came back from whale watching up in the San Juans (where Orcas Island is). Saw tons of orcas -- mostly from J-Pod, which includes the area's most popular whale, Ruffles. It was pretty amazing watching them frolic in the water.

Don't forget to plan your park stay around Fastpasses and the like. You can double the number of rides you go on with those handy little tickets (note that some parks charge for these, as if they're not already raking in the...

Balboa Park is fantastic, and not just because the zoo is there. I was amazed at the architecture and array of museums. I still haven't seen half of what I've wanted to.
