My biggest tip for holiday travel is not to travel on the actual holiday. We stopped that years ago, and it has made a big difference. That's not to say that we don't visit family or spend the holidays with family -- we just either travel before the holiday to be there for the big day, or we visit after the holiday. It's nice how we get to extend the festivities this way.
