There they may offer AAA or military discounts that the consolidators don't. Recently I found a AAA rate that $30 cheaper per night on the hotel's Website than the lowest offering on Expedia.

Actually I have found deals directly on AAA that were not mentioned on the hotel's website at all -- so definitely look there too.
My husband just showed me a resort rat for AAA on the resort website, then showed me a lower one on AAA for the same stay....go figure.
