I grew up in Mystic, CT, where there are a lot of fantastic things to do with kids in the summer. That's when the area, and all of New England, really come alive. If you're in Mystic this summer, check out:

--The Mystic Seaport Museum: Living history museum of an early 19th-century whaling village. Beautiful schooners and tasty johnny cakes.
--The Mystic Aquarium: Beluga whales, sea lions, and penguins!
--The Flying Horses Carousel in Watch Hill, R.I.: The oldest working carousel in the country - 1876! What kid can resist?
--Beachin' it in Watch Hill or Weekapaug: Try East Beach in Watch Hill, or the Dunes in Weekapaug. East coast beaches rule.
--Pequotsepos Nature Center: Hiking, wildlife preserve, and a treehouse.

Of course, you've got to try some clam chowder, and a lobster roll!

Woops - forgot to mention St. Clair's Annex for homemade ice cream, just steps away from the Flying Horses Carousel - awesome! Ah, nostalgia...
