I called them grandma & grandpa when I was growing up. This was for both sides, but on my dad's side we added their first names. My mom's parents were so close to us that we didn't need to add a single other discription.
Reading this question makes me really miss my grandpa...he was really quiet, strong & loved to laugh. He had an awesome laugh.
