We're all talking about Christmas but what about Halloween? In Tennessee we have farmers who grow giant hybrid pumpkins that weigh over 70 pounds and are as big as tires. They make great jack-o-lanterns because they're so huge and hollow. Each year I get 3 of these giants and carve faces in them the day before Halloween and make them the center piece of my grand lawn display. I use some electric lights and solar lights to enhance the scene, giving it a spooky but well lit atmosphere. Add in some animated figures and cobwebs and Halloween is lit up and ready for the visiting goblins in the neighborhood. After Halloween I cut the pumpkins into small pieces and spread them around my pine trees and gardens and they make a great natural mulch for my plants and shrubs!
