Throw a Sleeping Beauty Party

Aurora Birthday Cake Craft

It may not be her 16th birthday yet (thank goodness!), but it's just the right time to party like Princess Aurora! This Sleeping Beauty-inspired bash will have your little one squealing with delight (in the most ladylike way, of course).

The Invitation

The King's men sounded horns to announce the birth of Princess Aurora, but fairies Flora, Fauna, Merryweather, and other close friends received a formal invitation to see the baby. Make your own stately scroll to invite your princess' friends to the party. Write or print what you want to say on white paper. (Put your cursive skills to work or choose a regal looking font.) Once the ink is dry, age the paper by rubbing it with a wet tea bag and tearing or singeing (a job for adults only) the edges. Simply roll up the invite and tie it with a ribbon, or hot glue thin wooden dowels to each end. Cut each dowel to be about an inch longer than the paper. You can decorate the ends with ribbon. Be sure to leave one for Maleficent so she doesn't get offended!

The Cake

Tiny Teacakes: These tasty bite-sized treats are just like the ones Briar Rose would have shared with her fairy Godmothers over afternoon tea. You can make a slightly larger one to hold candles for the birthday girl. If you have extra time, make this craft replica of Aurora's 16th birthday cake and place the teacakes around it on the table.

Party Decorations

Printable Aurora Doll: After true love's first kiss awakened her, Aurora was ready to party! Let her join in on yours as part of the decorations. This delicate paper doll can hang out on the gift or cake table and watch all the fun. Print a few extras to hand out as party favors.

Pom-pom Songbirds: Just like the birds that followed Briar Rose around the woods, these adorable little pom-pom songbirds will have little princesses singing a happy tune. Round up some other stuffed animals to make the girls feel like they are in the woods with Briar Rose.

Party Activity

Aurora's Crown: Gather up the royal court for a fun activity that doubles as a party favor! With just a few supplies laid out beforehand, your party guests can make their own uniquely decorated crowns similar to Aurora's. If you have time the night before, cut out the foam crown pieces so they are ready to be decorated at the party.

More Sleeping Beauty Party Activities

Who Woke the Princess?: Select a few girls to be taggers. Have all the other girls lie down on the floor and close their eyes. The taggers walk around the room and gently touch a "sleeping girl" on the forehead. Once tagged, the girl should raise her hand so other taggers know she has already been "awakened." (Keep eyes closed!) Once the taggers have all tagged one girl each, the tagged girls have one chance to guess who woke them. If they guess correctly, they become a tagger and the girl who tagged them must lie down for the next round. The object is to guess who tagged you and stay a tagger as long as you can.

"Berry" Hunt: One of Briar Rose's favorite activities was to spend time in the forest gathering berries. Turn your living room into the forest by hiding little chocolates or candies for the girls to gather. Whoever gathers the most wins!

Party Favor

Paper Berry Basket: Need one more idea for a party favor? How about this sweet little berry basket? You can also have girls use it for the "Berry" Hunt game.
