Throw a Finding Nemo Birthday Party
Next time your kid cries, "Give me some fin!," plan a Finding Nemo birthday bash with undersea appeal. From the cute cake (pictured right), to an oceangoing invitation and some "fishy" fun and games, these ideas are sure to have each and every guest at your gathering declaring, "Dude!"
The Invitations

Festive Clownfish Invites: Get the party started with this adorable invitation. With a grown-up to do the cutting, kids can help print and assemble the Nemo-inspired cards, then stuff, stamp and address the envelopes. For added fun, re-create an aquarium with glassine envelopes (found at stationery stores). Drop in some colored sand, glitter and tiny seashells (found at craft stores). Don't forget to mark these "Hand Stamp" for the post office and add extra postage. |
What to Serve
|
|
Squirt Happy Turtlecakes: Bake and frost these sea turtle-inspired cupcakes in advance, then set out bowls of decorative candy and let kids top their own. Send them home as favors "floating" in clear plastic jewel boxes (found in craft stores) lined with waxed paper and a layer of shredded coconut tinted with blue food coloring. To serve Marlin and Dory's Jellyfish Cake (pictured above), lay out an aqua blue vinyl table cloth and a matching cake stand (found in homeware catalogues) and let your dessert double as a centerpiece. Affix white balloons to chairs with white curling ribbon to emulate aquatic bubbles -- placing blow-your-own bubbles at each place setting. If you'd like to serve a healthy snack before dessert, Spinach Squirt-tatas perfectly express the theme. |
Decorations & Games

Jazzy Jellyfish Decorations: Use fishing wire (found in sporting goods stores) to hang these dangling decorations from the ceiling to achieve an undulating undersea effect. For younger kids, Bobbing for Nemo makes a fun party game, with the fish-shaped sponges sent home as favors to use as bath toys. Print and cut these Nemo party hats in advance, then let litte guests assemble their own during party playtime. Set out a fish bowl full of crayons and use this printable activity page as a placemat to busy wee ones at snack time. |
