When I was pregnant with my first son, a family friend gave me a piece of advice. She said, "You own the nap. Not your kids. Don't let them give them up."
She was right.
My oldest son began going on nap strikes when he was two. I dreaded the loss of naptime. But I persisted, and tried to help him nap because I knew he needed his sleep. He was miserable without naps.
Now, at 5, he *still* naps. I firmly believe that being persistent and consistent with naptime was a part of it. My now 2 year old is showing similar signs of being resistant to naps...and I'll be giving that a fight too!
