We had a horrible time finding shoes for my oldest daughter as a baby. Not only did she have wide feet (which is common for many babies), but she also had a tall foot. The top of her foot had a little fat pad that made it impossible to get most shoes on her feet.
I took her to the popular shoe stores for children, but practically nothing would fit her. We had to look elsewhere. I had good luck looking online for shoes. Preschoolians were our first choice, but we also found See Kai Run shoes to fit well. Other good first shoes are Isabooties and Vincent shoes, too.
Because of our experience, I always recommend that parents check not only the size of the shoe, but also the width and height of the shoe as well before buying it. You don't want walking to be a painful event for your baby.
