Our daughter is nearly 2 and has been using a spoon and fork for a little while. She prefers to use them because she sees us using them. Sometimes she'll struggle with getting food onto the fork, when she could easily pick it up with her fingers. She'll ask for help ("hep") and want us to stab the food with the fork and hand it back to her.
Lately I introduced a knife (don't worry, it's not sharp or serrated) and she LOVES using it. She says "cut cut" and likes to try to cut her food with it. Mostly she mushes it up but she likes the act of cutting because she likes her food cut and asks us to cut it up small for her.
I also try to give her a cup with just a little bit of water or milk with her meals because I want to transition her off the sippy cup and get her used to drinking from her own cup. I also give her a napkin sometimes so she can get used to it.
