After-school alternatives such as the local YMCA, Boys & Girls Club of America and programs at your town's recreation center are conveniently located within walking distance or a short bus ride from local schools. For a small fee, many of these organizations offer kids a place to go to learn a sport, work on homework with the help of tutors and just play with other kids. They are also safe places that help keep kids off the street and out of trouble. And that's nice to know when you may not be able to get home before they do.
