My story about: First Day of School

My son started Kindergarden last year and did great up unitl about the last quarter when all of a sudden every day when we'd drop him off he would cry and sometimes he would cry into the day so much so that the teacher would call me at work. We worked through it but I honestly didn't know what to do so I bought a treasure chest and filled it with little $1 items that he could choose after he hadn't cried for five days. It worked sometimes but most of the time it didn't.
This week he started the 1st Grade at the same school with all his old classmates and sure enough he broke out in tears as soon as the teacher came out to meet the kids on the playground. Another teacher graciously approached and walked him away from us when she saw him crying but obviously I was ridden by guilt and heartbroken. I had taken that day off from work and told him in the morning, hoping to help him get through the day, that I would pick him up yet when I arrived, prior to the bell, he was lined up at the door with the other kids still in tears. Apparently he told the teacher he didn't know who was coming for him and how he would be getting home!
Both my husband and I spoke to him that night and I lowered his non-crying number of days in order to choose something from the Tresure Chest but we're still waiting for him to make it through just one day of not crying.
We're at a loss of what to do and my husband feels it's because our son is a mama's boy but I disagree. My husband drops him off throughout the scool year and I pick him up in the afternoon from daycare where many of his classmates go as well so how can I be the cause of his morning anguish? Of course maybe I'm in denial. God knows I could be wrong!
I'm guessing there really is no answer and this is just something we'll have to continue working through as a family until he grows out of it.
