Hi Fancee69,
My boy was very independent when he started school, but my spunky girl, who had been looking forward to her first day of kindergarten and even helped me mark off the days on the calendar, broke down in tears when it was time for me to leave. I know what you mean about your heart breaking!
But my mom said I was the same way and what really helped with me was that she would drop me off and pick me up at the same time every. She was never late and never early. She said it took a couple of weeks but after I realized that I could depend on her, I settled down.
I tried it with my daughter -- I admit the first few days were the hardest when I was tempted to stick around longer to comfort her -- but after I stuck to my guns, she came around too. Like mother like daughter!
That's what worked for me. I hope it helps!
